Cornelius Leahy & Margaret Manly
THE LEAHY FAMILY...
From what I have established so far the Leahy's and Manl(e)y's appear to have immigrated to South Australia from Ireland.
Cornelius and Margaret were married 3 Oct 1858 at Mt Barker, South Australia, his father was Denis Leahy and her father was Edward Manely. At some stage following their marriage they traveled through Victoria to the Wilcannia area in NSW were Cornelius worked as a horse breaker and teamster, I believe for the Cobb & Co Coach Company.

Buckiinguy was a property owned by Cobb & Co. The Whitney family lived there in 1863. A grave of one of their children is on the property. Buckiinguy once incorporated the stations of: Mara Creek, Benah, Morbello West, Wooloogoola, Tooloogoola, Wooloogoola West, Morbello, Grayway, Waugbundry, Wandamungay - comprising 'Millie and The Mole'. Rutherford received Buckiinguy on Whitney's death when the Cobb & Co properties were split up.

A LITTLE PINKERTON HISTORY
The paternal Pinkerton branch of my family has been transplanted on Australian soil for 8 generations, so far!
In 1841 there were three people onboard the 'New York Packet' which sailed into Sydney that would play a part in the Pinkerton Lineage.
They were James PINKERTON, aged 23, a native of Derry, Ireland, Mary Ann POLLOCK, aged 21, and her younger sister Margaret POLLOCK, aged 18 both from Leckpatrick, Co. Tyrone, Ireland.
James appeared to have traveled out on his own undertaking as a Labourer and Mary Ann and Margaret whose callings were as Servants were brought out by a Mr John Miller under the protection of Mr Andrew Kerr and his wife.
Whether they new each other before the voyage down under is not clear but on 29 March 1842 James and Mary Ann were married at the Scotts Church in Pitt St, Sydney. They went on to have 8 children.
Margaret married John JOHNSON on 25th August 1847 at St Saviour's Church in the County of Argyle, NSW which is now known as Goulburn, NSW, Aus.

A Little Background History
Now, do I call this one Hodges, Bray or Leahy? That is the big question!
Here is some background and hopefully if you are connected to this branch you can help me fill in some blanks.
Louisa Bray, the daughter of John & Maria BRAY was christened 4 August 1861 at St Blazey, Cornwall. When the BRAY'S came to Australia is not known at this time but has been narrowed down to somewhere between 1861 and 1877, although from her death certificate which states that she had been in the colonies for 72 years makes her about 4 when she arrived.
From Louisa's marriage to John HODGES in 1878 at Wilcannia, NSW we know that her father 'William John BRAY' was deceased and that her step-father Henry POCKRANDT gave his permission for her to be married, her mother's name was not listed. Henry Pockrandt and a Mary Kirby were the witnesses.
Since writing this I have received a birth certificate of a Clarence Ernest Henry Pockrandt which shows that Henry POCKRANDT & Hannah ROWE were married 24 Aug 1875 at Wallaroo, SA.
There are 11 children born to Louisa Hodges, 4 of them with the father as John HODGES and 7 without a father listed. These 7 were the children of Cornelius LEAHY, even though they were registered as HODGES. Cornelius and Louisa did finally marry in 1919 presumably following the death of John HODGES. At this marriage she stated her parents as John BRAY (dec) and Anna Maria ROWE. Having stated that, it is interesting to note that Elizabeth Jane ROWE had her son William Bray ROWE baptised at the same time that Louisa was at St Blazey, Cornwall in 1861.
At the birth of my great grandmother Beatrice to Louisa, Mrs Hannah Pockerandt was listed as the
witness.
Now to add another blank is the father of my grandmother Lily May, we have a name which can not be proven. In Beatrice's later years she lived with John 'Jack' Ryan until his death, as far as I am aware they never married although her death was registered under RYAN.

My paternal Lucas branch has been transplanted on Australian soil for 8 generations to date and I have found three brothers making a fresh start here (so far). They were Daniel, the eldest and first to arrive @ 1881 then William and his family along with his youngest brother James in 1885. The brothers appeared to follow in the family tradition of being iron moulders with Daniel having his own company 'Bird & Lucas Pty Ltd' located in the Forest Lodge, Glebe area, Sydney. The company was de-registered in 1985. If anybody has any connection or knowledge of this company I would love to hear from you as I would like to know what they made!
My great great grandfather William LUCAS married Mary Jane YOUNG on 15 June 1883 at 43 Madeira St, Leith, in the County of Edinburgh, Scotland. They gave birth to their first child, a daughter Jessie during 1883. William followed in his father's footsteps as an Iron moulder and they sailed towards Sydney from Plymouth on the 'S.S. Gulf of Venice' and arrived on 3rd February 1885.
During the journey Mary Jane gave birth to their first son Andrew. They then had another son David John (my great grandfather) on 14th February 1887.
Tragedy struck the family two years and two months after settling in their new home, William passed over of Typhoid fever on 21st April 1887. Sadly young Andrew also succumbed to Typhoid fever during 1890 at the tender age of five.
Mary Jane never remarried and passed over on 29th October 1942 and is buried with her husband and son at 'Waverley Cemetery' in Sydney, NSW.
When we were in Sydney during January 2001 we found the grave and there is still a simple headstone marking the site.
This Lucas line does NOT connect with Nathaniel Lucas a First Fleeter to Australia.
